Lawrence Park was one of the originally planned developments in Toronto. Imagine Lawrence Park as the postwar suburbs of Toronto. Perhaps this is a little challenging to imagine as many people consider Lawrence Park to be a Toronto neighbourhood within the core of nowadays.
Lawrence Park has long been held as one of the most beautiful neighbourhoods in Toronto. Large properties with grand homes. In the last 20 years, many of the original homes have been knocked down and replaced with even more significant, more opulent spaces. Fortunately, many of the mature trees have remained despite the development.
Some of the more successful businesswomen and men live amongst the streets of Lawrence Park.
Schools
Lawrence Park has some excellent private schools from the all-girls private school Havergal College, Toronto French School, Crestwood School, the all-boys Crescent School, Lawrence Park Collegiate Institute and the list continues with great elementary schools like Bythwood Junior Public School. Your child’s education is well cared for in LP – yes, it may come at a financial cost in the independent system; however, the public system provides an excellent alternative full of former private schoolers. (like Ryan!)
Access
Lawrence Park TTC Subway station and buses can get you anywhere in the city. Also, the easy access to highway 401 is paramount or many Lawrence Parkers who choose to escape the city for their Chalets in the winter and their Muskoka cottages in the summer. Lastly, getting downtown is easiest via Bayview and the Bayview extension.
Parks
There are several parkettes through Lawrence Park. As for larger parks, there are many flower parks just behind George Locke Library that leads into the ravine and ultimately down to the waterfront…yes, you can link the paths. It makes for an incredible walk; you can even stop off at The Evergreen Brickworks – what a Saturday adventure!
Shops
Yonge Street is the obvious go-to for shopping. The generational focal point being, Sporting Life. Also, one of the original Roots is located just across the street. Also, stopping by The Sign of The Skier for all your winter sporting needs (and summer patio/bbq needs) is a must. There are also many ladies’ fashion options as well as all the restaurants you could want!
We love Lawrence Park, partly because we grew up here. It’s familiar, safe and all the amenities you could want are right there at your fingertips.
