I don’t know many millennials who would choose to live in the burbs and work in downtown Toronto. It simply isn’t the lifestyle fit. A lot of our millennial clients want to be able to walk or uber to restaurants, cafes and work. Why live in a huge non-descript suburban home with a large grassy lot that has to be maintained, right?
The idea of living in an ultra-cool loft downtown that meets the simplest of necessities of functionality and modern style is all that’s needed. And, when the time comes for making a family a funky home in the core is ideal! Here is a breakdown of the best neighbourhoods for millennials!
King West – Lofts
The original neighbourhood for loft living in Toronto, King West. Home to the hippest Ad agencies in Canada. The hub of Toronto’s creativity. Great condos abound. A quick walk to so many fantastic cafes, restaurants, bars and theatres. This is an incredibly vibrant neighbourhood.
Carlaw Avenue – Lofts
The mecca of Hard Loft conversions in Toronto are along the Carlaw Avenue strip (not to mention countless gyms and trainers! Seriously, this must be the highest per capita of the fit-minded in TO!). Being nestled in Leslieville there some wonderful cafes and restaurants nearby. There really is no reason to leave the hood at night or on weekends!
West Queen West – Lofts
The original loft living in Toronto started with The Candy Factory. It was converted in the late ’90s. This turned the tides for loft living in Toronto. For so long people looked at NYC lofts with envy, suddenly Toronto realized that we, too had loft conversion options!
Trinity Bellwoods Park is a huge draw for Queen West inhabitants! It’s always a party in the park! You would be hard pressed to live in a more stimulating park of Toronto than Queen West!
The Annex
If you have followed this blog for a while you will see that The Annex is a favourite. There really aren’t many areas of the city with such a diverse set of inhabitants: Students, Young Professionals, Professors, Artists, Businesspeople. Not to mention this being a wonderful hood with century homes and century trees! Due to the diversity, this can be a real attention grabber for Millenials.
Whether it’s a condo or if there is some good financials means there are a number of incredible homes to choose from! Too expensive? Hmm, consider buying a multi-unit house or small apartment building. Being that the houses are larger than most downtown one can split up the space and many can get away with starting a family as space often permits.
Dufferin Grove
Another bias here having been a long time resident of Dufferin Grove! Dufferin Grove Park is magical! Open fires, pizza oven, skating rink, skateboard park, farmers market! Wonderful century homes! It’s rare to see Dufferin Grove homes pop up on the market.
Again, this is a neighbourhood similar to The Annex (in fact Dufferin Grove is a lot like what The Annex was 20 years ago!), a great make-up of people. There are some fortunate young families within Dufferin Grove. Also, Dovercourt Park, to the north is a mecca for your families that stroll down to Dufferin Grove Park!
Leslieville – Homes
Have you grown out of your condo? Time to take a step into the housing market? Time to start a family? Leslieville is a great first move! The Victorians scattered throughout Leslieville can really excite people. This hood was long held as a poorer area of Toronto. However, this began to change about 15 years ago and substantially over the last 7 years. It’s become an incredibly vibrant hub! Lot of strollers making their way down Queen Street East to parks, cafes and yoga.
