Yorkville has an incredible history of transformation. Living in Yorkville has evolved from the arts and culture of the hippy generation of the 60s through to desire of that same generation to “get real jobs” and build up elite businesses in Toronto’s downtown core. The Victorian homes that can be found on Hazelton, Bedford, Elgin, Boswell, etc are current day proof that the wealth throughout Yorkville is incredible.
In more recent years there have been some immaculate, luxurious condos built on Yorkville, Bloor Street, Hazelton and of most recent Davenport. The desire for Toronto’s business elite to be centrally located and a pedestrian accessibility to fine restaurants and shops has seen these Torontonian’s downsize from Forrest Hill and Rosedale into small, luxurious homes and spaces in Yorkville. Yorkville Village (formerly known as Hazelton Lanes) recent transformation has made for an incredible high-end mall worthy of the Yorkville neighbourhood. An interestingly enough living in Yorkville has meant, for the most part, living north of Bloor. Many wealthy downsizers prefer to stay north of Bloor. As the density of the area increases, this will change over time.
Yorkville is as close to New York City, Paris, and London living that Toronto has to offer. There is a great mix of historical buildings, high-end luxury shops, and incredible restaurants. It’s where Movie Stars stay while in Toronto for filming or red carpet walking during the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). Supercars line the streets of Yorkville. Where else in the city will you find $500,000 cars parked on a street? There aren’t many locales where you would trust the next drive parking anywhere near your car, except when it is another ultra high-end vehicle. This is all a part of living in Yorkville.
The evolution of living in Yorkville continues as more and more three storey commercial buildings are being torn down to make way for more luxurious living and shops – the demand is incredibly high as Toronto embraces its renaissance.
