What Makes Leaside So Great?

One of Toronto’s first planned communities, Leaside is an upscale, highly sought-after neighbourhood located near Eglinton Avenue East and Bayview Avenue. Originally modelled after the affluent Rosedale neighbourhood, Leaside has developed a distinct community identity over the past century.

Known for its private tree-lined streets and stunning properties, the area maintains a high profile in the Toronto real estate landscape.

Types of Homes

Leaside features a mix of two-storey detached homes, bungalows and semi-detached houses mostly built in the 1930s and 1940s. The prevalence of Tudor-style cottages reflects the neighbourhood’s affluent demographics. Most properties sit on generously sized lots, with private driveways and garages being a staple feature. Other common elements include symmetrical design, distinctive window placement, rustic wood trim, hardwood floors and working fireplaces.

You Should See

Leaside’s unique volume of community amenities makes it stand out from other upscale neighbourhoods in the city. Along Millwood Road, The Leaside Memorial Community Gardens complex includes an indoor ice arena, swimming pool, curling rink and an auditorium. For urban explorers, Redway Road Staircase is a must-see. Nicknamed the “Most Interesting Staircase in Toronto” it runs down through Crother’s Park and is a hidden gem worth checking out.

Neighbourhood Hotspots

The Good Son is a local Italian restaurant known for their great food and “neighbourhood spot” atmosphere.  Their pizza is a menu staple. Baked in a wood-fired oven, it is a must-try.  The other items on their menu reflect Toronto’s multicultural past and present. For fans of sushi, Kintako Japanese Restaurant features some of the best dishes in Midtown. They also have great customer service unmatched and occasionally host impressive performances from a local magician.

Getting Around

The majority of Leaside’s affluent residents rely on personal vehicles for transportation. While off-road bike trails offer some connections to other areas of the city, there are no formal bike lanes within Leaside’s borders. For transit riders, the recently completed Eglinton Crosstown LRT connects residents to the Eglinton Subway Station along Line 1.
