Riverdale is a beautiful neighbourhood just outside the hustle and bustle of downtown. It’s incredible what the Don Valley does to separate the two areas of our city. There is a quaint aspect to Riverdale that few neighbourhoods in Toronto have. Riverdale has the architecture of the Annex and Rosedale. The century homes on tree-lined streets draw a lot of young families. The word is slowly getting out that one of the best vantage points overlooking Downtown Toronto is from Riverdale Park East (connected to Riverdale Park West in Cabbagetown via a pedestrian bridge crossing over the Don Valley Parkway.) Withrow Park is also an incredible spot to relax or play with the family.
Here’s the thing, some downtowners may think that Riverdale is sleepy or without much to do…but this is where the locals will stop those naysayers short. They love their hood. Here is what the locals do in Riverdale (we would like to thank some past clients for their insights!).
We have taken to calling Riverdale the Brooklyn of Toronto! Yes, we think it is that cool, that much of a mix of people, and just out the frenetic pace of downtown Toronto without being more than 5-10 minutes of a drive into the core.
Coffee Culture
Soul Chocolate – Imagine a coffee shop launched based on their desire further to share a supreme “single origin” chocolate offering?! Let’s clarify what this means: Soul Chocolate has developed a loyal following in TO and beyond. The fair trade, raw, organic cocoa is mixed wonderfully with specialty flavours creating delicious boutique chocolate bars! The owners, Katie and Kyle (be sure to say HI! for us when you swing by!), decided to set up a coffee shop to pair their chocolate flavours. They have created a truly unique experience. We highly recommend their shot of warm chocolate…it’s hard to say no once you have tried one! (note that Soul Cholcate has moved to the fantastic stretch where Left Field Brewery, near the Pocket (just east of Riverdale) and north of Greenwood Park – this is a must-see location!)
Great Outdoors
Wander the neighbourhood. Yes, it’s that simple. Getting out into the tree lines streets, meeting new people and exploring the many cultural offerings that Gerrard and the Danforth have to offer—one favourite of the locals to catch a show at the Danforth Music Hall.
Hill sprints at Riverdale Park East – Okay, bear with us here. This is more about the athletically inclined or for those looking to burn off some of the extra helpings at a recent family party. Head to Riverdale Par,k, and you will see a warn path directly up the hill. It’s been heavily utilized over the years. This is a great way to get fit, fast.
