The Annex has long been a favourite running spot. The inspiring UofT Campus, Historic Homes – like Victorians, Queen Annes, Tree-lined streets etc., it’s no wonder that people love running through the Annex – even those who don’t live here. Whether it’s jogging off the workday stresses or enjoying the weekend calm, running through the Annex is wonderful! Perhaps it is as the sun sets or the light drizzle cleansing the soul it can be a wonderful way to reset.
There are a couple of Annex runs that people really enjoy, particularly a 5K and a 10K route.
5K Annex Run:
Feel free to start wherever is easiest or closest to your home along the route…as always, improvision is a great way to keep things fresh as well! You will notice that Bloor Street West is avoided for the most part. No point in dodging traffic and pedestrians heading in and out of restaurants when the quaint Annex streets await! You will see that this 5K running route jogs through the South Annex and the West Annex (aka Seaton Village).
10K Annex Run:
This is a more undulating and challenging Annex run as it takes you up through South Forest Hill. Poplar Plains is a great hill to practice your endurance and challenge your sprinting ability to the max! It also offers a great route through UofT, hard to find a more heady or inspiring area of downtown Toronto! This run also includes: West Annex, South Annex and Little Italy.
Bonus Fun Run:
Head out the door and find your version and inspiring run through the Annex as you make your way towards Yellow Creek (tucked away in Rosedale), find the many staircases as the end of the ravine and lose yourself in one of Toronto’s natural gems! (not many people think to jog through the forest by the river…you can get lost in the trails, in a good way! Such a beautiful part of our city!
